What is New Quizzes?
New Quizzes is the second-generation quiz engine and assessment tool. Canvas' original quiz engine, now referred to as Classic Quizzes, is being maintained but is no longer in active development. Both New Quizzes and Classic Quizzes are available to instructors in Bruin Learn.
What are the benefits of New Quizzes?
New Quizzes offers feature enhancements, new item types, and workflow improvements for instructors.

What are the limitations of New Quizzes?
Some of the commonly used features in Classic Quizzes that are currently not available in New Quizzes:
- Bulk download file submissions
- Edit access for people who have the Designer role
- Releasing correct answers on a scheduled date and time
- Bulk migration of Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes. Click here for more information.

New Quizzes is still in active development to bring it to full feature parity with Classic Quizzes. How do I get started?
If, after reviewing the benefits and limitations above, you've decided to try New Quizzes, these are the steps we recommend (preferably in a sandbox site) to get started:
1. Enable New Quizzes.
At UCLA, New Quizzes are disabled by default and must be enabled in your Course Settings. Learn how to enable New Quizzes.
2. Migrate your existing (Classic) quizzes.
- Migrate existing quizzes.
- Migrate your Classic Quiz Question Banks to New Quizzes Item Banks.
3. Review the settings on your migrated quizzes.
Review the Creating New Quizzes module to learn how to create and edit quiz settings.
4.Take quizzes as a test student.
Review your questions as a test taker using one of the following methods:
- Turn on Student View Links to an external site. (quiz must be published)
- Preview Links to an external site. the quiz
- Create a "test student" account Links to an external site. that you can enroll into your course(s). While Student View or Preview can be helpful for reviewing questions as a test-taker, submissions while in these modes do not not generate reports or data that would be helpful for instructors

Try It! Take a New Quiz
To try out the student experience of taking a New Quiz, you can self-enroll in this course as a student and gain access to our sample quizzes and interactive activities.
After you have enrolled, you can take a New Quiz as a student.
