Cloze questions (from CCLE/Moodle) | Embedded answers (Cloze) questions consist of a passage of text that can have various answers embedded within it, including multiple choice, short answers and numerical answers. |
The Fill in the Blank Links to an external site. question type supports multiple blanks and three answer types: Open Entry, Dropdown, and Word Bank. |
Pagination | There is a general need for flexibility with question layouts using pagination. | A related feature idea, [New Quizzes] Page Breaks in Quiz Structure Links to an external site., has been added to Canvas product development Theme, Expand options for quiz formats Links to an external site. (Feb 2023) |
Present content with multiple associated questions | There is a common need to present introductory content (which could include a graph or image), and then list multiple questions associated with that content. If the introductory content includes a large image or a graph, it is not ideal that the student experience entails scrolling back and forth between that content and quiz questions. | Stimulus content Links to an external site. allows instructors to create content that can be viewed side-by-side with multiple attached quiz questions. If the quiz is set to display one question at a time, each question attached to a stimulus will appear next to the stimulus. |
Drag-and-drop | Drag-and-drop questions contain a set of words or short phrases that the learner must drag into response targets. |
This is available in the Categorization Links to an external site., Fill in the Blank Links to an external site., and Ordering Links to an external site. question types. |
Select the missing word | This is very similar to the drag and drop into text question type, but uses drop-down menus in the text instead of drag-boxes. This works well where the question text is very long and you would have to scroll a lot to do drag and drop. |
A comparable question type to 'Select the missing word' in New Quizzes is Fill in the blank Links to an external site.. |
Share item banks to a program (subaccount) | [under construction]
Easier interface for question creation | [under construction]
Graded and ungraded surveys |
The ability to make an anonymous survey is an important feature for gathering input from students. With an anonymous survey, instructors want the option for either ungraded or participation points. |
Some settings that re-create survey functionality is currently available in New Quizzes, including Zero point quizzes don't display in the gradebook Links to an external site., Do not count this assignment on the final grade Links to an external site., and in the Complete/Incomplete grading option in the gradebook Links to an external site.; others are on the Canvas roadmap Links to an external site.. For true survey capability, Canvas recommends the use of third-party survey tools that can be integrated into the platform. Bruin Learn supports iClicker Links to an external site. and Poll Everywhere Links to an external site.. |
Provide automated feedback for students based on overall quiz score | [under construction]
Students "draw" answers to quiz questions with mouse/trackpad |
This function is used to test visual knowledge of a concept through the submission of a diagram or a drawing that can be completed within the quiz. This response type is frequently used to test knowledge of language scripts/characters in language courses and online language placement exams. |
|
Reopen quiz attempts due to technical difficulties | [under construction]
Download a report of student results |
There should be a way to download quiz data that allows for a comprehensive review of quiz effectiveness. |
In February 2024, Canvas released a comparable featureLinks to an external site. that allows instructors to download the Quiz and Item AnalysisLinks to an external site.. The Student Analysis that is available in Classic is not included but in development as of 2024. More information is available on Quiz and Item Analysis. |
Extend time for in-progress attempts |
Currently, adding time for an attempt only applies to the next attempt, not one that is in progress. |
As of December 2023 this is a Feature Idea (Extra Time while Quiz in Progress Links to an external site.) that has been added to a larger Theme (Expand quiz settings for greater customization Links to an external site.), but has not yet been prioritized for voting. For more information about the Canvas feature voting process works, please read How do Ideas and Themes work in the Instructure Community? Links to an external site. |
