Communication 10 is my favorite class I have taken thus far at UCLA, even given the fact that I only had the 6-week version as opposed to a full quarter. The course was my first exposure to collegiate-style lectures, and I found both Suman's content and style to be very engaging. Suman's lecture on freedom of speech actually shifted my opinions on the issue, and all of his lectures succeeded in making me think and exposing me to new, interesting ideas. While there was a non-trivial amount of work needed for the course, both the assigned books and readings written by Suman were interesting, so I seldom fell behind in the course. Once fall quarter started, I felt very prepared for my courses in large part due to the work I had done in Comm 10. As a Business Economics major, I went into the class thinking it would be a boring GE and came out with a new appreciation for Communication Studies and information about communication I felt I could apply to my own life.
