Learn: Creating Item Banks
Overview
Item Banks can be created in two ways: you can start by creating a bank of questions in the Item Banks tab, or you can add questions already in a New Quiz to an Item Bank.
Start from Item Banks Tab
Click on the Item Banks tab in the course navigation menu.
Click +Bank on the top right hand side. Give your bank a name, and if you want to share it with the course, check the box below.
Once your bank has been created, click on its name. You can then start writing questions to add to the bank.
Start from Already-Created Questions
You will start by navigating to the quiz with questions you want to add to an item bank. Click on the Quizzes tab in your course navigation. Select the quiz (New Quiz) you'd like and go into the Build mode.
Choose your question, and click on the Edit icon.
Open up Item Banking by clicking on the Item Banking button.
Click the Add to Bank link. Here, you will be able to choose whether you want to add the question to an existing or a new bank. If you choose Existing item bank, choose the destination bank and click Add.
If you choose New item bank, enter a title for the new bank, and then click Add when finished.
Classic Quizzes Comparison
New Quizzes differs from Classic Quizzes in that you can add quiz questions already in a quiz to an Item Bank, OR you can create a new bank and write questions for it, then add them to a quiz.
Classic Quizzes allowed for one workflow: create a question bank with questions, and then add those questions to quizzes.
Additionally, New Quizzes' Item Banks are tied to the user, rather than to a course like Classic Quizzes' question banks. You can share an Item Bank with a course or with other users.
