1/27/2022 Dr. Sanchez Watch Dr. Sanchez's short videos on some exercises that she recorded during the office hours 12:00-2:00 PM of 1/27.

Watch example 1 : Are births uniformly randomly scattered across hours of the day? That is, are they a Poisson process? This is another example of model fitting, but this time using the Poisson model.

Watch example 2. The same question we asked about babies can be asked about extinctions (or fires, or earthquakes, ....). Dr. Sanchez sets up the beginning of the solution to answer this question in a way similar to that of the births.

Watch examples 3 and 4, which demonstrate how useful it is to remember the LOTUS methods learned this week. It also helps to remember that parameters, which we denote with greek letters, are constants in the models.

2/8/2022 Watch a completely solved example of bivariate discrete random variables recorded by Dr. Sanchez during office hours. The example is different from the one done in lecture, to show you the wider applicability of the methodology we use. The experiment consists of drawing a chip at random from a bowl, where the chips in the bowl are peculiar. Not quite like the example of the workstudy students. We also focus on the new definitions.

Next, watch how Dr. Sanchez uses the definitions learning in the bivariate discrete lecture and reviewed in the first 2/8 video to solve more abstract calculations. It really pays to have your definitions in your cheat sheet and pull them out when solving long abstract calculations.
