Student Checklist

New Students

If you haven’t already done so, please log into Bruin Learn. Doing so will create your user account.

Can't find your course?

Please review this troubleshooting guide: Why isn’t my course in Bruin Learn?

Check Your Default Email Address and Notification Settings

In order to receive messages from your instructor and other notifications for activity in your Bruin Learn courses, please make sure that the default address in your user account is one that you actively check and use.

You can also add multiple email addresses to your Bruin Learn account. When you do, please mark one as your default address and set your notifications for it. More information and instructions are in Adding and setting your default email address and notification settings in Bruin Learn.

Viewing Class Recordings (Zoom)

If you are unable to view your course recordings, a possible issue is that the email associated with your UCLA Zoom account is not the default email address in your Bruin Learn user account. Please review the instructions in Authorize Zoom Integration with Bruin Learnto fix this issue.

Save Your Work

Please save any work and course materials you would like to keep. Students will lose access to Winter 2024 courses after Sunday, April 14, 2024, and Spring 2024 courses after Sunday, July 7, 2024.

Instructions for downloading your submissions from Bruin Learn/Canvas and third-party tools that might be used in your courses are linked below:

If you need access to a course site that has closed, please ask your instructor. Instructions for extending student access are in Course access after a term.

Office Hours, Support, and Training

Bruin Learn Office Hours

Virtual office hours are available Monday through Friday via Zoom, where a team of instructional designers and Bruin Learn Center of Excellence (CoE) staff can help answer your questions about Bruin Learn and Academic Technology Tools.

Canvas Technical Support

'Help' icon in the Canvas/Bruin Learn global navigation Canvas Technical Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Click the ‘Help’ link at the bottom of the left-hand blue Bruin Learn navigation menu to your left to find the support options available to you. If you do not see the Help menu, please log in to Bruin Learn, first.

Issues that require additional work to resolve will be escalated to the Bruin Learn Support team.

Local Support

In addition to contacting support via the "Help" icon in Bruin Learn, students and instructors can get in touch with support staff in their Local Units. Visit the Bruin Learn Local Support Contacts page to find the contact information for your local support team, if available.

What's New and Enhanced

Spring Enhancements

Bruin Learn / Canvas Enhancement - Quiz and Item Analysis CSV DownloadLinks to an external site.

New Features:

In New Quizzes, the CSV format of the Quiz and Item Analysis report can be downloaded, encompassing all metrics and Answer Frequency Summary tables accessible through the User Interface.
Allows admins and instructors to easily download data via CSV for a comprehensive look at quiz effectiveness, providing the necessary information for creating custom reports and supporting learning outcomes.

Bruin Learn / Canvas Enhancement – Temporary EnrollmentsLinks to an external site. (Scheduled Monday, March 25, 2024)

New Features:

Allows Bruin Learn admins to manually add people to course and collaboration sites for a specified amount of time. Course Roles will vary based on sub-account.
Ensures that people do not have access to a Bruin Learn site for longer than the instructor or collaboration site owner intends.

Bruin Learn / Canvas Enhancement - Bruin Learn User Account Provisioning Service for Non-Academic Employees (Scheduled Thursday, March 28, 2024)

New Features:

Currently, non-academic employees are not proactively given access to the Bruin Learn platform. This new service will source the necessary employee data to automatically create Bruin Learn user accounts for all non-academic employees.
The service will initially run once for the bulk of all current non-academic employees, and will then run on a schedule several times each day for new hires.
Will greatly facilitate non-academic employee enrollments in staff training sites on Bruin Learn by site administrators/instructors.

Academic Technology Tools Dashboard

The Academic Technology Tools Dashboard was re-designed to enhance the user experience for faculty and administrators when accessing pertinent third party tool information.

iClicker is Free for Students

Instructors and students are now able to use the web-based and mobile versions of iClicker, an interactive polling tool used widely across UCLA, at no cost. Previously, students had to either purchase a physical iClicker remote or buy a subscription to use the iClicker with their own device (laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc.).

Bruin Learn Center of Excellence (CoE) Website

Visit the Bruin Learn Center of Excellence (CoE) website for the latest information, tools, services, FAQs, and ways to contact the Bruin Learn CoE.

One of the key features of the new website is the Academic Technology Tools Dashboard which identifies a comprehensive list of educational technology products which are integrated into Bruin Learn or have been requested.
