Review the Grading Scheme
Regardless of which grading methodology the faculty is most comfortable using, they should adhere to the grading schemes of their department or unit level. If the grading scheme is enabled for the class, then there are letter grades calculated by Bruin Learn and MyUCLA imports those letter grades. When no grading scheme is enabled, MyUCLA uses the default UCLA scheme to translate those percentages to letter grades.
Check to see if the correct grading scheme is in use by navigating to your Bruin Learn course Settings (course left navigation menu) and selecting the View button.
Faculty should direct any questions regarding their departmental grading schemes to the appropriate local support.
Please note: Instructors can adjust final grades in the MyUCLA Gradebook before submitting them.
Sync Weighted Grades
If the syllabus indicates weighted grades, ensure the Bruin Learn Gradebook includes weighted grades in the assignment groups.

Provide Grade Values
Next, make sure that all grade cells have a value entered, including zeroes for unsubmitted assignments. The Gradebook won't display accurate grades for students until all submitted assignments have a grade value entered.
Review the Bruin Learn Gradebook. Update grades for all assignments that students completed. Each grade column cell should have a grade value entered. If students don’t have a grade value entered for an assignment they submitted, Bruin Learn will not apply it to their overall grade.
Check that each grade column cell has a value entered in. Add "0" points for any unsubmitted assignments.
The Bruin Learn Gradebook has a setting that can automatically apply a "0" to assignments without submissions. This setting only works if assignments have due dates and the submission type is Online.
- To apply this setting, click on the gear icon located at the right-hand side of the Gradebook:
- Under the Late Policies tab, select Automatically apply grade for missing submissions. Enter a grade percentage for all missing submissions.
Please note: The Missing Submission Policy will not automatically add a grade value for On paper, No Submission, and External Tool assignment submission types.
For more information about using the late policy setting for missing assignments, review the following resources:

Excuse Grades with "EX"
If a student was excused from submitting a particular assignment, enter EX in the grade column cell, and Bruin Learn will ignore the assignment for that student and not count it towards their total grade.
Unhide/Post Assignment Grades
Hidden assignment grades are not visible to your students and are not factored into overall total grades until the grades are posted (visible) to students. Hidden grades are indicated in the Gradebook by the crossed-out eye icon.
Review your Gradebook and post any hidden grades. Post grades by clicking on the three dots next to the grade item and selecting Post grades from the drop-down menu.
